Gynecology is mainly thought of as the performance of annual Pap smears. While annual well woman exams are an essential gynecology service, a wide array of other problems may be addressed as well. These include:

  • Menstrual problems (such as irregular, heavy, or painful periods)Gynecology

  • Premenstrual syndrome and other types of hormonally influenced physical or emotional symptoms

  • Adolescent gynecology (first exams, difficult periods, counseling about sexual health and contraception)

  • Contraception of all types (pills, patches, rings, diaphragm, injections, implants, IUDs, and in-office sterilization)

  • Pelvic pain, including sexual pain syndromes and vulvodynia (painful vulva)

  • Abnormalities of the female reproductive tract including endometriosis, fibroids, ovarian cysts, and PCOS (polycystic ovarian syndrome)

  • Evaluation and treatment of abnormal Pap smears and HPV (human papillomavirus) infection

  • Menopausal medicine, from wellness counseling to nonhormonal treatment of symptoms to prescription of HRT (hormone replacement therapy), including bioidentical HRT

  • Treatment of vaginal and urinary infections, sexually transmitted or otherwise; screening for sexually transmitted diseases

  • Evaluation and treatment of urinary incontinence

  • Second opinions on necessity for, and type of, surgery (HealthMark gynecology services do not include surgery other than minor in-office procedures)

At HealthMark we offer integrative gynecology services, which means gynecology with a view toward the whole patient and the root causes of disease. The goal is always to address problems in the most natural and noninvasive way first, always respecting the wishes of the patient (or at times, her parent).
